Bush Retreat

CYCLES. HUM. CLAY. LIGHT. RESILIENT.

What started as a campaign ad for Koala, to celebrate the launch of their cork sofa, ended as an immersive restoration love story.

Deep within the bushland of the Nattai region sits a mud-brick family home, surrounded by the dense Australian landscape that would come to shape its restoration.

We spent more than three months living on the property, reclaiming, restoring and reimagining this humble structure.

A warm and inviting family home emerged. We made limewash paint from scratch, drew the colour and material palette from surrounding bush and delved deep into the builds’ history and bush craft origins which guided all aspects of the rebuild and eventual transformation.

The result is a home deeply connected to its place, a restoration shaped by materiality, local knowledge, patience and the beauty of its natural surroundings.
