 VALUES + PHILOSOPHY

  • Collage with rocks and colour blocks

    Creativity

Creativity creates new possibilities and opportunities, it is a commitment to look at the world in a certain way & see things not as they are but in what’s possible.

  • Translucent petals

    Transparency

Whether things are good or bad, information is conveyed openly. Communication and accountability is at the heart of this.

  • A styled scene of granite and stone.

    Resourcefulness

Inventive and bold in spirit, seeing the inherent value in things, redefining and reframing them to have new value.

  • Balance sculpture

    Integrity

A fundamental and foundational block on which relationship and trust are established. Moral and ethical choices to always do the right thing no matter who’s watching.

Kelly Ross

I am a multidisciplinary designer, creative director, educator, and experiential maker working across material exploration, immersive environments, storytelling, education, and community-led creative systems.

As creative & design director of Kelly Ross Design, my team and I have delivered projects across Australia spanning immersive installations, boutique and luxury hotels, hospitality, product activations + manufacturing, private stadium suites, warehouse conversions and mud brick cottages. .

My practice is deeply interested in how environments influence behaviour, memory, and subconscious experience.

I completed a BA in Human Environment Design, exploring the intersection of psychology, design, and architecture with a double major in Set Design and construction before embarking on a 13 year theatre career touring inter/nationally as a Head of Department on large-scale musical productions including Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Dusty Springfield, and The Producers across Australia and New Zealand.

This experience developed my strengths in technical delivery, collaboration, leadership, logistics, stakeholder communication, and high-performance, complex, creative environments.

Postgraduate studies at the International School of Colour & Design (ISCD) led to Industry Excellence recognition and a 7 year teaching and curriculum design role within the Interior Styling, and Interior Design departments, alongside establishing my design studio. My work included course development and facilitation, public speaking, conference presentations, interstate workshop facilitation, and co-designing the new Interior design campus guided by sustainability and circularity principles. I am currently an Industry representative at Sydney Design School supporting emerging designers.

Research, materiality, systems thinking, sustainability, and more-than-human design are central to my approach, alongside transdisciplinary collaboration with artists, architects, lighting designers, videographers, graphic designers, makers, educators, and fabricators to create thought provoking and long lasting sensorial experiences.
